Let's talk about the most important attitude we can cultivate as followers of Jesus: embracing an attitude of love. Colossians 3:14 (NIV) puts it this way:
"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."
Love is the foundation and fulfillment of all Christian virtues. It's the very essence of God's character, the motive behind the gospel, and the mark of true discipleship. When we cultivate an attitude of love, we reflect the heart of Christ in a hurtingworld and experience the fullness of life that He promises to those who abide in Him.

As recipients of this incredible love, we're called to love others with the same selfless, sacrificial, and steadfast devotion.
Love is not just a feeling or emotion; it is a choice and a commitment. It's the decision to seek the highest good of another person, even when they're unlovable or undeserving. It's the willingness to lay down our lives, our preferences, and our agendas for the sake of serving and honoring those around us. And it's the fruit of walking in step with the Spirit, who pours out God's love into our hearts and empowers us to love beyond our natural capacity.
One of the keys to embracing an attitude of love is learning to see people through God's eyes. When we recognize that every person is created in His image, beloved, and precious in His sight, it changes the way we treat them. We start to look past their faults and failures and focus on the potential and purpose that God has planted within them. We become more patient, kind, and compassionate, knowing that we too are works in progress.
Another way to cultivate love is to practice forgiveness and let go of offenses. Love keeps no record of wrongs but instead chooses to extend grace and mercy, even when it's hard. As we release others from the debt of their sin against us, we free ourselves from the bondage of bitterness and resentment and create space for God's love to flow through us.
Love also requires vulnerability and humility. It means being willing to open our hearts, share our struggles, and admit our weaknesses with trusted friends and community. As we allow others to see us in our brokenness and imperfection, we invite them to do the same, and we create a safe space for authentic connection and growth. Love breaks down the barriers of pride and pretense and builds bridges of empathy and understanding.
Of course, loving others isn't always easy or comfortable. There will be times when we're hurt, betrayed, or rejected by those we care about. But as we abide in Christ's love and allow His Spirit to fill us afresh each day, we find the strength and courage to keep loving, even when it costs us. We can trust that as we sow seeds of love, God will bring forth a harvest of righteousness and reconciliation in His perfect timing.
